Life began as a humor magazine with limited circulation. Fashion in France is an important aspect in the spectrum of culture and social life, as well as being an important aspect of the economy. From the 17th century, it exploded into a rich industry both for local consumption and for export. Planning a trip to the city of light can be challenging, especially when it comes to finding a place to stay. Fashion design and production gained prominence in France from the 15th century. Each of the twelve arrondissements had its own mayor, but their power was limited to enforcing the decrees of Napoleon's ministers. During its golden age from 1936 to 1972, Life was a wide- ranging weekly general interest magazine notable for the quality of the photography. With 20 neighborhoods (arrondissements) to chose from, looking for accommodation can be terrifying, at least it was for me last spring when I was planning a 5 day trip to Paris. Life was an American magazine that ran regularly from 1883 to 1972 and again from 1978 to 2000. This partial list of city nicknames in the United States compiles the aliases, sobriquets and slogans that cities are known by officially and unofficially, to municipal governments, local people, outsiders or their tourism boards or chambers of commerce. To re-establish order in the unruly city, he abolished the elected position of the Mayor of Paris, and replaced it with a Prefect of the Seine and a Prefect of Police, both appointed by him.
